Projects and Courses
I am blessed to be engaged with a number of projects, some community-based, others more academic in scope.
This page lists all the projects I’m working on.
As this site is slowly being expanded, the landing pages and links will be added in time.
My email list at the bottom of the page is where I make announcements when features go live.
Men Making Things Better
Men Making Things Better celebrates and supports the positive contribution men make to their families, communities and businesses. We aim to make our own lives better while helping to improve the lives of others.
The community recognises that every man has something valuable to receive and something valuable to offer. It is for men seeking friendship, encouragement or direction, and for those wanting to contribute, mentor, teach or lead. All men are welcome.
Through facilitated gatherings, useful conversation and shared effort, we offer a constructive fellowship where men can listen, learn, make considered choices and follow through on things that matter with good humour and the satisfaction of being useful.
Belief is the Battlefield
This conceptual art project argues that two moments became symbols of a collapse of trust. The Matrix, released in 1999, supplied the vocabulary: waking up, taking the red pill, seeing through the simulation. Two and a half years later, 9/11 supplied the ontological shock. For many people, every crisis since has been read through the same lens: what are we not being told?
Neither came from nowhere. The project traces the ideas behind today’s cognitive warfare, from antiquity to the present. It asks not only how we arrived in a ‘post-truth’ world, but how we might navigate it without losing our footing.
It began as a podcast on the twenty-fifth anniversary of 9/11 and, over one year, is expanding into video, spoken word, fiction and memes. It brings together the three lenses of my work, psychotherapy, psychology and sociology, on one question: how minds create meaning in an unstable world.
Meditation and Mental Health
Over a decade ago I wrote a short book on meditation and mental health. Alongside it I created guided meditations, rating scales, and other resources so readers could try the ideas for themselves.
Those resources were shared widely across the internet. Until now, there was nowhere to find them all in one place. This site is that place.
As I build the site, I’m refreshing the resources and updating the book. We live in a world of apps now, so much of the material will be available as an app too.
I also want to build a community around these resources, somewhere online to meditate together, or come together in person on retreat.

Courses
I write these courses mainly to understand things better myself.
Over the years that has meant a lot of reading and research into mind, cognitive science and meaning. The courses are where I try to pull it together.
Each one is pitched at Master’s level, about the depth and scope of the teaching on a 20-credit university module. Of course, they don’t carry academic credit.
Somewhere along the way, other people started telling me they get something from the courses too. The conversations and connections that have come out of that mean a great deal to me.
So here’s where things stand.
I’m still writing the new course Mind, Magic and Power.
Ethnography of Mind and Distributed Cognition are being refreshed and repackaged as a free app you can download on your devices.
I know some people have been waiting for them to be re-released. When they are ready, I will announce them on my email list.
If you’d like to hear when that happens, join below.
